Arabic: Beginners

An introduction to spoken and written Arabic and an insight to the middle Eastern culture and customs.

No experience required.

Students are advised to have the following book (Mastering Arabic) with them in the first class.

Art - Learning Various Techniques

The tutor will help you develop your skills from looking at our subject through to sketching and finishing your work using a wide variety of media to suit your interests.

Beginners Guide to Photoshop

This 6 week course will cover the basic Photoshop skills to edit your pictures.  Topics covered are Cropping, Resizing, Cloning, Dodging and Burning and working with layers. 

This is a hands on course with each student having a computer with Photoshop and Lightroom. 

No experience required.

Chinese (Mandarin) – Beginners

The course covers basic speaking, vocabulary, reading, writing, grammar and dialogue for daily communication.

The course focuses on introducing yourself, greetings, family, travelling, foods/menu, directions, sports, birthdays, weather and more.

This course is for beginners and no experience is required.

French – Beginners

The course covers basic speaking and reading, for daily communication with friends or on holiday.  Students will learn to introduce themselves, menus and ordering food, travelling and getting directions, weather and more.

As a beginners class, this is open to all; whether learning from scratch or brushing up from school.

Gardening

Venue: Biblical Gardens

This course will allow students how to design and maintain their gardens, no matter how large or small. 

Topic covered will include lawns, choosing and caring for shrubs and plants yourself and using contractors for tasks you are not confident with.

Students will need to wear stout footwear and weather appropriate closing, gardening gloves are also recommended.

Photography - Let's Take Better Pictures

You will learn how to take control of your camera and how to take stunning images. You will learn about shutter speeds, aperture, ISO, lighting and composition.

Photography (Intermediate) – The Next Step

In this 8 week intermediate course you will learn how to take full control of your camera in Manual mode. 

You will be out and about in Elgin giving an opportunity to build your portfolio.  You will learn how to shoot with off camera flash and mixing daylight with flash to make your pictures “pop”.  Slow shutters speeds and depth of field will also be covered.

Note: Students will need to bring a DSLR or Bridge camera and the manual with them.  Sorry, Point and shoot cameras are not suitable.

Russian – Beginners

Learn the basics of the Russian language through the spoken and written word. Participate in simple discussions and conversations in Russian.

Be able to read and understand place names and advertisements, whilst learning about Russian traditions and culture.

The course is delivered using video, games and songs - making the learning process interesting, dynamic and funny.

Sewing - Absolute Beginners Dressmaking

Find out how to plan out a simple dressmaking task. Understand the pattern and cut fabric before the fun of sewing and creating your own garment from scratch.

You will learn to get the best out of your own sewing machine, if you have one bring it along, or learn to use one of ours.

A great way to meet people and learn a new skill, having fun as you go along.

Spanish – Beginners

Learn the basics of the Spanish language through the spoken and written word.

What Happens in Heritage: Explore beyond the glass case and discover how the past is preserved

An informative course designed to explore how historic artefacts are looked after in museums and historic buildings.

This unique course will be delivered in a flexible, friendly format designed to help develop student knowledge and understanding of caring for collections.

The knowledge gained through this course can even be extended to use in your own home with an opportunity to ask the tutor specialist conservation advice.
