In response to the current coronavirus (COVID-19) all leisure and evening classes starting in April 2020 have now been postponed. Everyone that has submitted an application will be contacted by our admissions team in due course. We are hopeful that these courses will run again in September, please keep an eye on our website for updates.

All courses are offered at our main campus on Moray Street unless otherwise stated.

Our short courses and leisure classes are a great way for you to learn a new skill, turn a hobby into a money earner or even take the first step on the road to achieving a new qualification.

This 6 week course will cover the basic Photoshop skills to edit your pictures.  Topics covered are Cropping, Resizing, Cloning, Dodging and Burning and working with layers.

A foundation course that will give the student the confidence to talk in the following topics: Introducing yourself and Travel, Describe your family and your house, Hotels and camping and Services, Holidays and Transports, Shopping, Food and drink, Health and wellbeing and Hobbies, School and employment.

Learning traditions and local customs as well as the basic language. Trying authentic French food recipes for homework and original songs with lyrics.

Gardening Skills

Start growing food at home with this exciting new course. 

This is a relaxed and friendly course held in Moray College UHI’s well equipped Horticultural Training Facility at the Biblical Garden, next to Elgin Cathedral.  Free tea and coffee on arrival.

This evening course will provide and introduction to food growing, which is ideal for those who want a taste of the growing experience.

It will cover:

  • compost making
  • sterilizing
  • making containers
  • mixing growing media ingredients/soils
  • filling containers
  • sowing micro-veg, potatoes, rotation, beansprouts in a coffee jar
  • simple plant-raising techniques
  • seasonal tasks in the gardener’s calendar
  • pests and diseases
  • watering and caring for your crops, planning and crop rotation
  • fruit pruning, weeding, harvesting

There’s an emphasis on activity, participation and fun throughout this course.  

All students will need to wear sensible clothing for outdoor gardening work, including sturdy footwear.  Gloves that are not too thick will be useful and students may want to bring note writing equipment and a camera to record the work we do.

At the end of the course everyone leaves with something to start their own edible garden, as well as a tool-kit full of ideas and useful tips.

Also the opportunity to present their original material i.e. samples of literature, recipes or any original Italian material used during their studies or holidays/work in Italy.

Learning traditions and local customs as well as the basic language. Trying authentic Italian food recipes for homework and original songs with lyrics.

All students with good or at least basic knowledge of Italian Language either recent or not so recent, but willing to improve and add to their fluency.

Learn the basics of the Spanish language through the spoken and written word.

You will learn a useful cross section of vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation to enable you to hold your own in Spain, read basic signs and stay safe.

There is an element of self study if you are to get the best from the course.  Throughout the course there will be some explanation of the subtle differences between Spanish as spoken in Spain and as in South America.
