Qualifications explained

content

Our courses cover a wide range of subjects and are designed so that we will find the right starting level for you depending on your skills, qualifications and experience.

Which course will you choose?

You can start your learning at the level that suits you and take your studying as far as you want in order to achieve your personal or professional goals.

Our courses can be divided into Further Education and Higher Education. There are clear progression routes from one to the other so that you can choose to stop studying at the end of your course or continue seamlessly onto the next level.

Further Education (FE)

Further Education courses have a strong work-based focus through content, work placements and
realistic work environments. They include National Qualifications (NQs), National Certificates (NCs) and Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs).

Higher Education (HE)

If you have the required entry qualifications you can go straight into a Higher Education course or you can first complete a FE course to bring you up to speed before progressing. HE courses include Higher National Certificates (HNC), Higher National Diplomas (HND) and undergraduate degrees such as BA, BSc and BEng courses.

Postgraduate Study

Honours and Masters provision is becoming increasingly available through UHI. Should you wish to study a course offered at another UHI college, you can, through the use of a more blended approach, eg. video-conferencing and on-line, become a hosted student at Moray College UHI.

Professional Development Awards (PDA)

These qualifications are available at postgraduate and postexperience level, spanning a wide variety of occupational areas. A PDA can enhance your career prospects, or allow you to change the direction of your career altogether. They will often be sponsored by your employer.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

CPD is important to everyone in employment as initial training or qualifications become outdated as working life changes to meet new demands. Maintaining or upgrading skills and knowledge can help to enhance performance in an existing job role, supports career progression and ensures that individuals continue to develop the skills and knowledge that are required as change makes new demands on them.

Evening and Leisure Courses

We also offer a variety of non-certificated leisure courses that you can dip in and out of as it suits you. Areas of interest include arts and crafts, computing, languages and health and fitness. We also offer a range of certified short courses including First Aid, Health and Safety and a range of oil, gas and renewable courses.
