Social Sciences

Designed for those who want to understand people, communities and the world around them, our Social Sciences courses offer a flexible and engaging way to explore how society works and why it changes.

With a clear progression from entry level courses through to degree study, you can start where you are and build towards your long-term goals.

Exploring a range of subjects including sociology, psychology and politics, you will make sense of how individuals think, how societies are structured and how decisions are made at local and global levels.

Through discussion, research and real-world case studies, you’ll develop the ability to question, analyse and understand the social forces shaping everyday life, while building confidence in your own ideas and perspective.

What our students say

Jason Bray – MSc in Applied Sciences: Globalisation and Crime
My time with in the UHI as provided me with confidence to speak to groups of individuals within a professional environment for example, class committee meetings and student conferences.

My course as allowed me to fully understand in an academic manner about society and Human behaviours.

The advice I would give is choose UHI because the lecturers are friendly and understanding.

Caitlin Thorpe – HNC Social Sciences
I thought the teaching was great. The lecturers were very supportive and always were keen to answer and help with any queries or difficulties I had.

Having left school with not good grades and feeling like education was not for me, the staff instilled in me an excitement to learn and realise that I could learn something I don’t believe I would have realised myself.
