BA Literature student, Lois Wappler has been chosen by the Carnegie Trust to undertake a project that will provide direct benefit to her undergraduate degree.

Lois Wappler

Lois has recently completed her 3rd year of study at the Moray College UHI campus and has been working in Edinburgh to undertake research as part of her scholarship. The project titled ‘Talk to my poems’ is a creative project examining and responding to female mental health experiences in confessional poetry.

The Vacation Scholarship Scheme is for Scottish students undertaking an undergraduate degree course at a Scottish university, who have shown exceptional merit at university, and who would like to undertake independent research to enhance their academic work.

Lois said: “I'm delighted that I've been accepted for the Carnegie Vacation Scholarship, it is a brilliant initiative dedicated to undergraduate students willing to undertake a research role over the summer vacation.

The creative side of the project consists of me writing my own poetry as a response to what I've read, detailing my own experiences with mental health as a young Scottish female. I'm excited to push myself to document and share my own awareness of mental health in ways that I know have helped me.”

The project will result in Lois self-publication of poems produced as a pamphlet. You can read Lois past work and keep up to date with her scholarship progress at Lois Wappler's Website
