Student residences opening this August

Prospective students considering studying with us are now able to access new state of the art student accommodation.

Located on the site of Bishopmill House, the accommodation consists of 40 en suite bedrooms and students have the option of a single room or a modern studio room with cooking facilities.

The accommodation, due to open mid-August has been named Laich Rise in recognition of its position overlooking the Laich of Moray and the rich history of Elgin which is being reflected through the work of the Castle to Cathedral to Cashmere project.

The development of this accommodation is part of a wider project managed by the University of the Highland and Islands in partnership with the developers Cityheart. Accommodation has already been built on the site of Inverness College UHI and West Highland College UHI. Along with Moray, North Highland College UHI will also be recipients of new accommodation due to open in Dornoch this Summer.

Principal David Patterson said “Moray College UHI has enrolled record numbers of Higher Education students in the past couple of years and this new student accommodation will enable us to attract more students from outwith the region, and internationally. It will help us towards our ambition that Elgin will be seen both as an historic cathedral city and as a vibrant modern university town.”

James Johnston, Vice-Chair of the Moray Economic Partnership said:  “This is a very welcome initiative to provide student accommodation in Elgin. Encouraging young people to both stay in Moray, or to be attracted to the Region is a central aim of the Moray Economic Partnership [MEP]. Hopefully once here, the students will come to love the area, putting down roots whilst most importantly having the opportunity to develop fulfilling careers. The MEP is working with both business, Government and Agencies to develop a harmonization between the skills and knowledge that business needs, as well as ensuring that students receive a world class education."
