3rd Moray Game Jam Launches - Game on!

Moray College UHI in Elgin is once again set to host the Moray Game Jam, kicking-off on Friday 18th March, for 48 hours until Sunday 20th March 2016.

The 2016 Moray Game Jam will continue to build on its success, open to people who want to create either video games or board games. We’re looking for anyone with a great game idea!

Teams of up to 5 people can enter and all members should be 16 or over. There will also be a ‘matching service’ for solo entrants at the event.

The winners of the video games will once again receive industry-based mentoring by Elgin-based Hunted Cow Studios, and for the first time this year we are delighted to announce support from Business Gateway Moray who will provide expert business start-up support to develop their game ideas into a viable business proposition.

The winning board game will receive remote support from California-based Victory Point Games. Again, the judges will be from the games industry, providing valuable advice and support throughout the weekend.

Applications to the Moray Game Jam will open on Friday 22nd January 2016, via the Moray Game Jam website and close on Wednesday 9th March 2016. The Moray Game Jam is open to students and professionals across Scotland.

Workshops led by industry professionals will be on offer on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th March, with a keynote speaker opening the event on Friday 18th March. The workshops are free and will be open to Moray Game Jam competitors and members of the public. Young people aged 12 or under should be accompanied to the workshops by an adult. The workshops will include Digital Sculpting, Blender – 3D modelling, hands on Unity, art concepts and story-telling for games, and more. Further information confirming details of the workshops and how to book a place will follow on the Moray Game Jam website.

Last year’s Moray Game Jam winner Corrie Green, who won whilst studying at Moray College UHI, said ‘The Moray Game Jam is a fantastic opportunity to discuss game development and collaborate with like-minded people. It's one of the best digital events in the North of Scotland, and an unmissable event on my calendar.’

Following feedback from participants, time and space will be made available at the end of the Game Jam in a Mini-gaming Playground to showcase and try games created during the competition; this session will also be open to the public.

Anne Lindsay, Acting Principal, Moray College UHI ‘we are delighted to be hosting the Moray Game Jam again for the 3rd year and supporting the growth in games development locally and nationally as well as bringing opportunities of economic growth to the Moray economy’.

The event re-unites the partnership between Moray College UHI, ScreenHI [who deliver XpoNorth Screen and Broadcast – feeding into the main XpoNorth festival in June in Inverness] Elgin-based games publisher Hunted Cow Studios, and this year Business Gateway Moray.
