Blog: Samuel Scott, ESF Employability Programme

Did you know we are funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) to support people who are returning to work? We spoke to Samuel Scott about his experience whilst being supported through our Moray Pathways Employability Training programme.

Hi Samuel! Can you tell us how are you finding the programme so far?

It has been great! I feel I’m getting the right support and the team have been really good.

Why did you decide to join the programme?

I am currently in recovery, and at an appointment with my Community Nurse she told me about a course she took at UHI Moray. It got me thinking and we discussed possible courses for me. I looked into it by googling and came across the ESF employability programme.

How do you feel the programme has supported you so far?

It's helped me massively – it's been the small things which have helped with my confidence. I have learnt how to use a PC which has been really useful. I was supported with applying for a course I wanted in welding. All the help that I have received from this programme has been magic. I did need the help and once I realised this, there was no question in accepting it.

What are you goals for the future?

I've just started the Introduction to Engineering course at UHI Moray, so my goals are to complete this course, and hopefully get my maths qualification to then move onto an apprenticeship in welding.

What would you say to others who might be considering employability or training support?

I have never had so much positivity in my life before. I have the support from my family and friends who have noticed a positive difference in me since this programme. If this blog will help someone say yes to getting help and yes to joining this programme, then that is great. The information is all out there, you just need to go out and get it!
