Where are they now: Louise, DipHE Health and Social Studies

We caught up with DipHE in Health and Social Studies alum Louise to learn all about her role as a Community Development Manager

Hi Louise, Can you start by telling us a bit about yourself?

I'm Louise, the founder and Community Development Manager of the charity the Lossie 2-3 group, I have developed a new wrap around childcare derive and a community hub within the Lossiemouth area. This hosts a community kitchen, one to one Counsellor/advice room, community room and learning suite.

What have been the key milestones since you graduated?

Before the course I always had visions of supporting the community in a number of ways, this was highlighted more when our local community centre had closed down. During this course I discovered I had also been already doing the course work within the community but didn’t realise it was all of purpose, I was doing it as I wanted to help others. The course gave me the skills and knowledge to be able to go and create and develop a community a community health and well-being hub, within this I manage to fundraise over £600k to help refurbish a derelict building into a community hub which is due to open at the end of September.

What has been the biggest highlight of your career?

Seeing the dream of a wrap around affordable childcare service and health and well-being community hub in Lossiemouth. This will have a huge impact on peoples mental well-being and going to help elevate poverty within the area.

What are your future plans?

To develop more community hubs in Moray.

How did your studies help you get to where you are now?

Gave me knowledge and belief that I could deliver such a derive.

Lastly, what was the best thing about studying with us?

Learning and helping where we are today.
