Student Thoughts: Mihandri and Nalize

We sat down with sisters Mihandri and Nalize to hear about their experiences studying beauty and aesthetic therapies.

For sisters Mihandri and Nalize, choosing to study beauty and aesthetic therapies wasn’t just about learning treatments. It’s been a chance to grow in confidence; build real skills and take the next step towards a career they’re excited about.

Why were our beauty courses right for you?

Mihandri: Beauty and Aesthetic Therapies Level 5 was the right course for me as it offers all the skills and qualifications I require to achieve my future career pathway.

Nalize: The beauty courses have been right for me because I have always had a strong interest in beauty therapy and self-care. I enjoy skincare and helping others feel confident, so this course allows me to develop those skills professionally. It also links to my future goals, as I would like to go into nursing and become more advanced within the beauty industry.

How would you describe your experience on the course?

Mihandri: I have gained many skills such as customer service, being a leader within a salon and working together as a team. Me and my peers recently held an event where we sold products and organised raffles, refreshments and treatment demonstrations which lead to a great success for charity. The support I received from my lecturers helped me understand and complete my work to my full potential.

Nalize: Moving to the UK at a later age was challenging, but this course helped me build my confidence, improve my communication skills, and settle in. I also gained valuable experience through my work placement at Purity salon, which led to a part-time job. This was a valuable experience as it allowed me to apply my skills in a real working environment and gain confidence with clients.

The hands-on experience was especially valuable in preparing me for real salon work. The tutors and lecturers were very supportive and approachable, always willing to help and give feedback. Their support made a big difference in my progress and helped me stay motivated.

Overall, the course has prepared me well for my future goals in both the beauty and nursing industries.

You’ve both mentioned wanting to be a part of the beauty industry, what are your goals for the future?

Mihandri: I had a vivid idea of the career path I wanted to follow but I didn’t know the ins and outs, now it is much clearer as my lecturers informed me on a lot of important information. I would like to find the perfect place to settle and in need of a new beauty salon.

Nalize: In the future, I would like to build a successful career within the beauty industry, specialising in advanced treatments. I am always dreaming big and want to keep learning and developing my skills while staying up to date with new trends and techniques. I also hope to combine this with nursing to expand my opportunities.

What would you have been the highlights of your time at UHI Moray?

Mihandri: My highlights would not only be the skills I have learned but the friends I have made along the way.

Nalize: The highlights have been the practical learning, gaining real salon experience through placement, and the support from lecturers. It has also been a great opportunity to build confidence, skills, and connections within the industry.

Lastly, what advice would you give those considering studying with us?

Mihandri: Pick the right course for you and the rest will be easy. As long as you are interested and committed, studying at UHI Moray is enjoyable.

Nalize: UHI Moray provides great hands-on experience and supportive lecturers. My advice would be to stay focused, take every opportunity to learn, and make the most of placements as they can lead to real job opportunities.
