Moray School of Art Graduate Exhibition
Rachel McClure, a graduate in Fine Art Textiles from Moray School of Art, has been selected to exhibit her work as part of the 2020 Grampian Hospitals Art Trust (GHAT) Exhibition programme.
The exhibition named Subterranean Stream which Rachel shares with Iris Walker-Reid, a graduate from Gray’s School of Art is available for viewing online till 30th May 2021 and is located in the Suttie Arts Space within Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Due to current restrictions, only current users of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary are able to physically view the exhibition.
This is the first opportunity Rachel has had to physically exhibit her work, as the Moray School of Art 2020 final year degree show was taken online due to COVID restrictions.
Rachel graduated with a BA (Hons) Fine Art Textiles in 2020 and has also been selected for the Royal Scottish Academy ‘New Contemporaries’ exhibition which is postponed till 2022.
Rachels work explores the unnoticed aspects of our environment - initially through urban walking. During lockdown Rachel broadened her investigation to cold water swimming and captures instances of the multisensory experience of being in the sea and in nature to explore and map our external and internal journeys and how this impacts on overall wellbeing.

It is fantastic to see the work of Rachel being recognised, celebrated and showcased by Grampian Hospital Arts Trust. This is a brilliant opportunity for local graduates, providing a real stepping stone into the sector and a chance to contextualise their practice within a different environment. As restrictions are lifted I do hope the physical work becomes accessible to a wider audience so the tactile nature of Rachel’s work can be fully experienced.

It has been a great experience to work with GHAT to realise this exhibition. It has been challenging in the time of Covid and we were not able to visit the space, or to be involved in the installation. Having missed out on my degree show it has been fantastic to see my work in a gallery and I hope to be able to visit it soon, as restrictions allow. It has been an invaluable opportunity to be able to work with a professional gallery and take a positive step forward after graduating.
