BLOG: Louise, BSc (Hons) Sport and Fitness Graduate
We caught up with recent graduate, Louise, to chat about her experience as a student and how Moray College UHI strengthened her career.
Hi Louise!
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Hi, my name is Louise Cartmell and I’m 34 years old. I graduated from the BSc (Hons) in Sport and Fitness at Moray College UHI last year in 2020 and work as a self-employed personal trainer.
Why did you decide to study this course?
The course worked in with my job and complimented my knowledge. I was also able to join directly into the second year of the degree was able to study full-time alongside my job.
How did you find the mode of teaching and support?
It was excellent. I gained lots of practical knowledge and skills to apply to my current role as a personal trainer and was able to take part in real life work experience opportunities. Assignments helped to challenge my existing knowledge and push myself out of my comfort zone.
How has this course helped you in your career?
My studies have enhanced my confidence and skill set in my current role. Doing the course alongside my full-time job helped me to appreciate what I can achieve under pressure. The course encouraged me to develop self-reflective skills and the ability to adapt to various situations.
Where would you like to go with your career in the future?
I’d like to complete a masters and continue to develop and broaden my knowledge!
What would people be surprised to know about you?
I have a black belt in kickboxing.
What were the highlights of studying at Moray College UHI?
Successfully completing my degree and meeting like-minded people. The experience was challenging but fun and rewarding.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking of studying?
It’s never too late. Do it - you can’t go wrong.
