UHI Residency Programme: Exhibition Preview 15 Aug 2019
The University of the Highlands and Islands invite you to Moray School of Art Gallery on Thursday 15 August 2019 to celebrate the culmination of the first ever Residency Programme.
During academic year 2018/19, nine students from UHI engaged with the Scottish Prison Service (HMP Inverness) and Historic Environment Scotland to undertake self-led creative residencies in unique settings.
This exhibition brings together the results of these residencies. Featuring work from students studying BA Fine Art, BA Contemporary Art Practice and BA Drama and Performance across Inverness College UHI, Perth College UHI and Moray School of Art located at the Moray College UHI campus. The work on display includes visual art, film and written content.
Guest Speaker, Jess Thorpe will mark the collaboration with a lecture and question and answer session. As Co-Artistic Director of Glas(s) Performance, Co-founder of Junction 25 and lecturer in the Arts in Social Justice at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Jess has a wealth of experience in the delivery and evaluation of creative projects within usually restricted settings.
Stacey Toner, Curriculum Team Leader said: “We have been lucky to pilot this programme with very flexible and open minded partners. Students have learned a great deal about developing creative work within restricted frameworks – from the accessibility of physical spaces to issues of conservation – as this exhibition will show. This is a great opportunity to celebrate collaboration, both internally at UHI and externally with Historic Environment Scotland and the Scottish Prison Service.”
