Russell Scott, third year SVQ plumbing apprentice won first place in the Scottish & Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers Federation SkillPLUMB competition held at Dundee and Angus College last week.

Apprentices from across Scotland headed to Dundee to compete in the two-day competition

SkillPLUMB is an annual skills competition designed to promote standards and skills across the plumbing industry, developing competence into excellence.

Apprentices from across Scotland headed to Dundee to compete in the two-day competition to take part in two challenges including leadwork and copper pipework exercises. Russell represented Moray College UHI and excelled in the competition winning first place in both challenges.

On the day Russel had support from his family who travelled from Aberchirder for the competition and his employer, Mark Hay of Portsoy, who also won the competition several years ago!

Jim Mackinnon, Curriculum Leader for the SVQ in Plumbing, Moray College UHI, was delighted with Russell’s performance and was very impressed with the amount of preparation he put in on the run up to the competition.
