Moray College UHI Electrical Apprentice Wins Scottish Award

Local electrical apprentice electrician wins SECTT award.

Moray College UHI student Stephen McKenzie has won the Bronze medal in the Scottish Final of the SECTT 2nd Stage apprenticeship competition which was held in Edinburgh last week.

Stephen who has been an apprentice with MacDonald and Munro, Electrical Contractors in Elgin for 2 years has just entered his 3rd year. Stephen, who attended Lossie High School started his career in the offshore industry but at the age of 20 decided that he wanted to change of direction.

He loves his job and is looking forward to finishing his training in 2 years time. Stephen credits a great deal of his success in the SECTT competition to the support he received from his lecturers, Iain McBean and Jim MacKinnon who mentored him during the process and provided him with invaluable advice and support.

Stephen’s journey started when he was nominated as Moray College UHI student of the year which then put him forward for the Northern Regional Competition which he won. He was the put forward for the national finals.

Winning the competition means a lot to Stephen ‘I feel that I have achieved something and wanted to thank everyone who has supported me to get to the finals. It was a great experience for me'
