Digital Essentials for Careers

Launched in 2024, our Digital Essentials for Carers course was designed in collaboration with the Digital Health Initiative (DHI). Offering a free, flexible programme it’s aim is to empower both paid and unpaid carers with vital digital skills which boost confidence, open doors, and transform lives.

The course which is built around micro-credentials that carers can complete at their own pace, in any order. By embracing emerging technologies and engaging formats that reflect the diverse skills and experiences of carers, this course allows for personal and skills development. In addition, carers receive one-to-one support from experienced curriculum staff throughout their learning journey

Katie Little

From overcoming her own challenges with confidence and anxiety to helping shape support for some of our most vulnerable students, Katie Little's journey demonstrates the difference one person can make when they choose to use their experiences to help others.

When plans began for what would become the Promise Group, Katie brought something no one else could: her own experiences and understanding of the challenges some students face. Joining the steering group in its early stages, she quickly became an important voice in helping shape its direction and purpose.

Through her compassion, kindness and determination, Katie helped create an environment where students felt able to share their experiences openly. She encouraged others to contribute, listened carefully to different perspectives and helped ensure students felt represented within the group's work.

An integrated pathway in Counselling

We have developed an integrated counselling pathway that connects learning with real community need.

From senior phase pupils taking their first steps in understanding mental health and wellbeing, to adults returning to education and professionals looking to develop their practice, the pathway creates opportunities for learners at every stage. Flexible entry points allow students to join at a level that suits their experience, progress in a way that works for them and continue their learning journey when the time is right.
