The UHI Moray guide to clearing

Every summer, students from across the UK face the nerve-wracking moment of receiving their exam results. For some, it’s a moment of celebration. For others, it might mean rethinking their plans. That’s where Clearing comes in—a vital part of the UCAS application process that helps students find a place at university.

What Is Clearing?

Clearing is a process that matches students without university offers to available course places. It’s open to anyone who:

  • Didn’t receive or accept any offers
  • Didn’t meet the conditions of their offers
  • Applies after 30 June 2025
  • Wants to change course or university

How Does Clearing Work?

Clearing officially opens 5 July and ends 20 October 2025. Here’s how it works:

Already applied using UCAS?

  1. Check your status: Log into your UCAS Hub to see if you’re eligible for Clearing.
  2. Find courses: Use the UCAS Clearing search tool to browse available courses.
  3. Contact us: Call us directly to discuss your options. Be ready to talk about your grades, interests, and why you’re a good fit.
  4. Get an offer: If you are given an offer, we will send you instructions to put in your formal application on UCAS.

Not applied yet? 

  1. Find courses: Search "UHI" on UCAS clearing searchto see available courses.
  2. Contact us: Contact UHI to chat through your options call 01463 279190 or message us.

Tips for Navigating Clearing

  • Be prepared: Have your UCAS ID, personal statement, and grades ready.
  • Stay calm: Clearing can feel stressful, but it’s a well-supported process.

  • Act quickly: Places can fill up fast, so don’t delay once you find a good fit.

How to Support Someone Going Through Clearing

  • Stay positive: Reassure them that Clearing is a common and successful route.
  • Help with research: Assist in finding courses.
  • Be a sounding board: Let them talk through their options and feelings.
  • Encourage independence: While it’s great to help, let them take the lead in making decisions.
