Your Graduation Guide

Graduation is the highlight of the year at UHI Moray. It marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter. We want to help you celebrate your achievements to the fullest surrounded by your friends and family, and also our staff who are incredibly proud of you! To help you navigate this milestone with ease and make the most of every moment, here’s your comprehensive guide to thriving on your graduation day.

Confirm your contact details

Before the big day arrives, make sure your contact details are up to date so that we can send you a letter with all the important registration information:

Register your attendance

You must let us know that you plan on attending your graduation ceremony. You cannot attend on Friday 4th October if you have not done this.

  • Registration should be completed via the Ede and Ravenscroft website. Your graduation invitation letter will give you details on how to do this.
  • If you have not received your invitation letter, please contact MC.Registry.Moray@uhi.ac.uk so we can investigate this for you.

Mark your calendar

Make sure you know the date, time and location so you can plan your day including travel and parking.

  • Friday 4 October 2024
  • Elgin Town Hall
  • You will be invited to either our morning or afternoon ceremony; this will be detailed in your graduation letter
  • You should arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of your ceremony to ensure you are registered and seated in time for the ceremony to begin

Prepare your academic dress

To receive your award on stage, all Higher Education (HE) graduands are encouraged to wear the appropriate gown and hood, however, this is not a requirement for Further Education (FE) graduands, although you may still choose to do so.

Your graduation letter will give you an explanation on how to hire your gown through our official supplier Ede and Ravenscroft.

  • Remember, gowns are collected from the AyePod Café at our Moray Street Campus on the day of graduation, not Elgin Town Hall, so give yourself plenty of time to get ready.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help with your robe! Staff from Ede and Ravenscroft or UHI Moray can help get your outfit sitting just right.

Arrange your photography

Our advice is to plan your photos before the ceremony. The day goes by in a flash and once you return those robes you can’t go back!

  • Professional photos can be booked in advance through Ede & Ravenscroft and will take place at our Moray Street campus. Details on this can be found in your graduation letter. If you don’t book in advance, don’t worry! You will still be able to have photos taken on the day.
  • Personal photos are encouraged throughout the day. Ask your family and friends to give you a hand getting those candid shots, and make use of our photo booth in the AGBC Conference Room whilst you enjoy your complementary drinks and nibbles.
  • We love sharing in your success so please don’t forget to tag @UHIMoray and #UHIGrad in your social media posts and you might just win a £20 Amazon voucher! You can also make use of our print-at-home downloads and social media GIFs.

Top tips to make the most of your day

  • Arrive early to allow time for registration and to find your seat. This will help you avoid the stress of last-minute rushing.
  • Remind your guests to bring their tickets for entry.
  • Graduation ceremonies can be lengthy, so make sure you’re well hydrated and have had a good meal before the event.
  • Scottish weather can be unpredictable, so check the forecast and dress accordingly.
  • Consider your footwear and choose something you are comfortable walking across the stage in.
  • Try to stay in the moment and enjoy the day. Getting a qualification is a big deal and you deserve to celebrate!

Celebrate your achievements

  • Enjoy complementary drinks and nibbles after your ceremony at our Moray Street campus. Take this time to celebrate with friends, family and your lecturers.
  • From 7pm you can dance the night away at our exclusive After Party at Joanna’s Nightclub! Tickets are FREE on a first come, first served basis. Collect your tickets from Reception at either Moray Street or Linkwood campuses, or from Student Services. For 18+ only, please remember to take photographic ID on the night as this will be required for entry to the nightclub.
