What is special about this course?

This evening course is an ideal for those looking for an introduction to counselling theory. 

Introducing you to the main theoretical schools of counselling, Psychodynamic, Humanistic and Cognitive, you will explore the historical development of each and develop a deeper knowledge of the role of a counsellor. 

Alongside this, you will start to apply a range of skills aimed at developing your counselling approach.

Please Note: Completion of this course does not allow you to refer yourself as qualified counsellor.

  • Supports the development of counselling, personal and professional skills

While there are no formal entry requirements, you must be over 18 to study this course.

As part of this course, you will investigate the historical development and the role of the counsellor of the following:

  • Psychodynamic School of Counselling 
  • Cognitive Behavioural School of Counselling 
  • Humanistic School of Counselling

This is a practical based course with face-to-face classes on campus supplemented with our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

If you are studying part time and are on low income or in receipt of certain benefits your course fees may be covered by a fee waiver.

If you are not Ordinarily Resident in Scotland, you may need to pay course fees.

*with additional qualifications

 

The completion of our HND programme allows you to practice as a Professional Counsellor where you will have opportunities in areas such as:
