Childhood Practice SCQF Level 6

What is special about this course?

This course is ideal if you want to begin a career in Childcare at Support Worker level. 

Developed in partnership with employers and industry, this course will provide you with a broad-base of theoretical and practical skills across a range of topics.

You will develop and enhance your knowledge, skills, values and competencies in working with children in a Childhood Practice setting.

You will also have the opportunity to take part in two 6-week placements.

Entry requirements

  • National 5s at BBDD or above, one of which must be English, OR
  • SCQF Level 5 qualification or equivalent. 
  • Applications are encouraged from prospective students without the standard entry requirements as listed above but who have considerable experience of working with children.

Category 1 PVG course: PVG Scheme membership is required to successfully achieve target qualification, where there is guaranteed contact with vulnerable groups in key elements of the course. What can I do on completion of my course?

On successful completion of this course you may progress onto the HNC Childhood Practice or any alternative HNC programme.

Alternatively, you could seek employment at support worker level within a childhood practice and childcare setting, along with professional registration with the Scottish Social Services Council.
