This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills required for the motor vehicle engineering industry.
Combining theory and practical skills, you'll discover how modern vehicles work and build your confidence in applying skills to real applications. Learning in dedicated workshops, you'll explore systems, routine maintenance and key operating principles. You'll also look at transmission systems across a range of vehicles including how to carry out low voltage operations on, near, or with electric vehicles.

How will I study my course?

This is a practical based course delivered face-to-face on campus.
You will be required to submit coursework to the IMI e-portfolio system and undertake regular online tests as a mandatory element of gaining the IMI qualification.

Normally, if you are studying full time for the first time and are Ordinarily Resident in Scotland your course fees will be covered through the information you provide on your course application.
If you are studying part time and are on low income or in receipt of certain benefits your course fees may be covered by a fee waiver.
If you are not Ordinarily Resident in Scotland, you may need to pay course fees.

Equipment
You will be required to purchase boots, overalls and PPE to undertake this course (approx. £80). If you are eligible for a bursary these costs will be covered. All workshop tools and facilities are provided.
You will also require basic stationery such as pen, notebook and folder for theory lessons (approx. £20).
What can I do on completion of my course?
On successful completion of this course, you may progress futher study including:
- Engineering Systems (SCQF Level 6)*
- Relevant SCQF Level 6 course*
Alternatively you can progress into employment or a Modern Apprenticeship within a dealership or independent setting.
