What is special about this course?

This evening course is designed to give you a clear understanding of the purpose and process of counselling.

Through a mix of discussion and practical activity, you'll explore the aims of counselling, how the counselling process works, and the importance of reflective practice. You'll also begin to develop your awareness of counselling skills and how they are used when working with others.

With study tailored to your needs, this course provides basic knowledge that enables you to enhance your current career or progress onto further study.

Please Note: Completion of this course does not allow you to refer yourself as qualified counsellor.

While there are no formal entry requirements, you must be over 18 to study this course.

As part of this course, you will:

  • Investigate the aims and purpose of counselling.
  • Describe the counselling process.
  • Participate in a role play activity to counsel a client.
  • Review and evaluate own counselling skills.

This is a practical based course with face-to-face classes on campus supplemented with our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

If you are studying part time and are on low income or in receipt of certain benefits your course fees may be covered by a fee waiver.

If you are not Ordinarily Resident in Scotland, you may need to pay course fees.

The completion of our HND programme allows you to practice as a Professional Counsellor where you will have opportunities in areas such as:
