Exploring how children grow, develop and learn, you will build practical skills in areas such as communication, play and care routines. You'll also look at important topics including child protection, supporting additional needs and working with contemporary families, helping you understand the role of a childcare practitioner in today's settings.
With opportunities to develop hands-on experience and build your employability skills, this course prepares you for roles such as childcare assistant, nanny or creche worker, or to progress into further study in childcare, education or social care.

- A relevant SCQF Level 4 qualification
Applications are encouraged from prospective students without the standard entry requirements as listed above. Experience of working in a childcare setting may be accepted in the absence of formal entry requirements.
You will also be required to attend a pre-start event.
Category 1 PVG course: PVG Scheme membership is required to successfully achieve target qualification, where there is guaranteed contact with vulnerable groups in key elements of the course. How will I study my course?
- Full Time
You will study through a combination of face-to-face classes on campus and remote learning via our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), with support from your lecturers.
You will also gain practical experience by going on placement to a local early years' setting.

Normally, if you are studying full time for the first time and are Ordinarily Resident in Scotland your course fees will be covered through the information you provide on your course application.
If you are studying part time and are on low income or in receipt of certain benefits your course fees may be covered by a fee waiver.
If you are not Ordinarily Resident in Scotland, you may need to pay course fees.
