Access to Sport, Fitness and Uniformed Services SCQF Level 4

What is special about this course?

This short course is designed to give you the skills, knowledge and understanding in a variety of sport and fitness topics which will allow you to progress directly into our full-time SCQF Level 5 programme.

You will take part in practical sport and fitness classes and will also develop your skills in team working and health and safety.

Entry requirements

No formal entry requirements.

Category 1 PVG course: PVG Scheme membership is required to successfully achieve target qualification, where there is guaranteed contact with vulnerable groups in key elements of the course. Students on courses up to and including HND level have the cost of their application paid for. For further information visit this webpage.

Couse content includes:

  • Badminton
  • Introduction to coaching 
  • First Aid
  • Uniformed services: Working in teams
  • Introduction to fitness
  • Uniformed services: Health, safety, fitness and wellbeing
  • Work placement

Throughout this course you will be given the opportunity to improve your leadership and communication skills. You will also complete online modules that will prepare you for your future studies and enhance your employment skills.  

Equipment

You will require a PE kit including indoor trainers, tracksuit bottoms or shorts, and a suitable t-shirt. You will also require a stopwatch and whistle (approx £80). If you are eligible for a bursary these costs will be covered.

How will I study my course?

  • Full Time

You will study through a combination of face-to-face classes on campus within our sport and fitness facilities, and remote learning via our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), with support from your lecturers.

Normally, if you are studying full time for the first time and are Ordinarily Resident in Scotland your course fees will be covered through the information you provide on your course application.

If you are studying part time and are on low income or in receipt of certain benefits your course fees may be covered by a fee waiver.

If you are not Ordinarily Resident in Scotland, you may need to pay course fees.

What can I do on completion of my course?

On successful completion of all 8 assessed credits within this course, you can progress on to one of our SCQF Level 5 courses in August/September.
