What is special about this course?
This apprenticeship combines work with study, so you can earn while gaining a recgonised qualification that will help to start your career. Developed with Skills for Care and Development, this Modern Apprenticeship ensures you gain industry-relevant skills and a recognised qualification that supports your career progression.
Working with experienced colleagues and with the support of a dedicated assessor you will gather examples of everyday tasks, build an e-portfolio of evidence and formally demonstrate and gain recognition of your competence and knowledge. We can also tailor the framework to fit different job roles.
It is a legal requirement by the SSSC that all support workers in care services are working towards or have already achieved this qualification or equivalent.
You have to be in employment to undertake a Modern Apprenticeship undertaking tasks relevant to the programme units.
Category 1 PVG course: PVG Scheme membership is required to successfully achieve target qualification, where there is guaranteed contact with vulnerable groups in key elements of the course. You will study the four mandatory units listed below along with four other optional units which should be aligned with the tasks you complete in the workplace.

- Promote The Safeguarding of Children and Young People
The key element of the SVQ is to build a portfolio of evidence from your practice in your workplace.

This course is work based where you will train towards a nationally recognised qualification while working as an employee, with support from UHI Moray.
How long will my course last?
18 Months18 months maximum
The key element of a MA programme is the work-based SVQ units combined with five core skills, whilst SVQs can be studied as stand-alone courses, outwith the MA programme.

In most cases course fees will be covered for 16 - 19 year olds provided they are in employment. Funding may also be available for ages 20 - 24 and 25+ in certain sectors.

What can I do on completion of my course?
On successful completion of this course you may be able to:
- apply for a job role at a higher grade
- progress onto further study within the industry based on your job role and level of responsibility
