Business and Administration (SCQF Level 5) Modern Apprenticeship

What is special about this course?

Modern Apprenticeships (MAs) offer anyone over the age of 16 the chance to earn while you learn. They are an exciting way of gaining a recognised qualification that will help to start your career without having to study full time. 

Business administrators are at the core of any company, from ensuring the day-to-day business run smoothly to supporting with specific projects. You will have the opportunity to undertake tasks such as document production, supporting events, meetings and diaries, customer service, IT and various specialist administrative functions. 

With a qualification and hands-on experience in business administration, you open yourself up to a diverse and exciting career.

Entry requirements

You should be in a job or placement where you are carrying out relevant tasks and responsibilities which allow you to gather the required evidence to achieve the qualification.

 

Course content includes: 

Mandatory: 

  • Agree How to Manage and Improve Own Performance In The Business Environment 
  • Undertake Work in a Business Environment. 
  • Prepare to Communicate in a Business Environment 
  • Optional units include: 
  • Make and Receive Telephone Calls 
  • Prepare to Communicate in a Business Environment 
  • Undertake Work in a Business Environment 
  • Handle Mail 
  • Meet and Welcome Visitors 

The key element of a Modern Apprenticeship programme is work-based SVQs combined with five core skills. This can be tailored to be industry specific.

How will I study my course?

  • Part Time

This course is work based where you will undertake your qualification as an employee in your workplace environment. You will be assessed by observation, undertaking day to day tasks for which you are responsible and produce a portfolio.

Fees

In most cases course fees will be covered for 16 - 19 year olds provided they are in employment. Funding may also be available for ages 20 - 24 and 25+ in certain sectors.

Funding

Funding from Skills Development Scotland  to contribute towards the cost of the apprentices training under the Modern Apprenticeship programme is available for all young people aged 16 – 19 for all frameworks. Funding may also be available for young people between the ages of 20 – 24 and 25+. This is dependent on the frameworks and sectors and can change annually.

What can I do on completion of my course?

On successful completion of this course you may: 

  • Gain full time employment within the industry 
  • Progress onto further study such as a HNC in Administration and Information Technology, Business or Accounting
