What is special about this course?
This course allows you to develop the communication, analytical and critical thinking skills that are highly valued in education, employment and everyday life.
Exploring a range of literary texts, including prose, poetry and drama you'll develop your ability to analyse, evaluate and compare different viewpoints and styles of writing. Through close reading activities, you'll learn how to interpret complex texts, identify key techniques and support your ideas with evidence. You'll also enhance your writing skills across a variety of genres, developing greater control over style, structure and language.

Course content includes:
Language Study:
By focussing on two key areas close reading and writing. The close reading element will extend your understanding of passages and develop your ability to analyse the writer's style where you will evaluate passages by citing evidence in support of your comments. In the writing element you will be given the opportunity to write in a variety of genre and to extend your skills stylistically and technically.
Literary Study:
You will study prose, poetry and drama and will be introduced to a range of critical concepts and terms. You will also learn new skills in critical essay writing.
How will I study my course?

You will study through a combination of face-to-face classes on campus and remote learning via our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), with support from your lecturers.
Tutoring slots can also be booked with your lecturer if required.
How long will my course last?
8 MonthsPart time: 5 hours per week over 8 months.
2 hours a week will be face-to-face classes and 3 hours can be studied online at a time that suits you.
Face to Face: Thursdays 7pm – 9 pm

Normally, if you are studying full time for the first time and are Ordinarily Resident in Scotland your course fees will be covered through the information you provide on your course application.
If you are studying part time and are on low income or in receipt of certain benefits your course fees may be covered by a fee waiver.
If you are not Ordinarily Resident in Scotland, you may need to pay course fees.
