Our CPD Renewable Energy Project Management (SCQF level 8) helps you develop the knowledge and practical skills to manage renewable energy projects with confidence and contribute to a more sustainable energy future. Learn core project management principles alongside specialist insights into renewable energy technologies, building expertise that transfers across projects while meeting the specific demands of the sector.

Explore the complete lifecycle of renewable energy projects through real world case studies and practical scenarios. Develop skills in project planning, risk and value management, stakeholder engagement, and project delivery, applying your learning to realistic challenges.

Build a broader understanding of how to balance sustainability goals with financial and operational priorities, and strengthen the decision-making and leadership skills needed to deliver successful renewable energy projects in a fast changing industry.

This module has been developed in collaboration with Durham College in Ontario, Canada, with a clear industry focus featuring fireside chat insights from Canadian and Scottish renewable energy experts, Ontario Power Generation (OPG), Southern and Scottish Energy (SSE), and Statkraft.

  • 2 Scottish Highers at grade C or above OR
  • 2 A levels at grade D or above
  • Alternatively, qualifications equivalent to SCQF level 6/7 or above
  • You should also be working within a relevant professional role
  • Applicants with other relevant qualifications or experience will also be considered
  • Students from Durham College should complete the Renewable Energy Project Management online module with Durham College first

You will develop a strong understanding of both the programmatic and financial aspects of project management, including:

  • Budgeting and project cost management
  • Decision-making and performance monitoring techniques
  • Practical action planning tools, including Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)
  • Risk and value management in renewable energy contexts
  • Stakeholder analysis and effective communication strategies
  • The project management lifecycle and programme management
  • Use of industry-standard project planning software (e.g. MS Project)

How will I study my course?

  • Part-time
  • You can choose to study this course face to face at UHI Moray or fully online with scheduled sessions and tutorials
  • Online study will be done via the university's virtual learning environment (VLE), with support from your tutors
  • You will take part in a mandatory online induction at the beginning of your chosen start date (September or January)

How long will my course last?

  • Part-time: 10 weeks @ 2.5-5 hours per week

The number of hours per week indicates the total number of hours you should dedicate to the course, which includes time spent on online material as well as individual study and research.

This course module is designed to improve your professional practice to lead renewable energy projects effectively and responsibly, and can lead to further progression within your organisation or elsewhere.

Can I progress into further study?

On successful completion of this module you may wish to complete two further modules, 'Ethical solutions for global business' and 'Responsible leadership and management for organisational performance', to achieve the CPD Responsible Leadership and Management for Contemporary Business.
