Visual Art

Creative Practice 1 content

Creative Practice 1

Creative Practice 1

This 12-week module will allow you to develop your individual visual practice with tutorial guidance from staff. You will have access to a studio space and are expected to work on your practice and submission outside of class time.

As part of this course, you will produce: 
•    a set of investigative workbooks that evidence the development of your own practice
•    a portfolio of drawings and studies relevant to your practice
•    a digital submission representing practical and written work made for the module.

Level: SCQF Level 8
Start date: Wednesday 3rd September
Duration: 12 weeks
Day & time: Wednesdays 1-3pm

Study mode: This is a practical based course with face-to-face practical classes on campus supplemented with our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

  • A digital portfolio of up to 5 images of recent work – in one pdf
  • Short 250 word max statement explaining your motivations for studying this module and what you hope to gain from it
  • Previous experience of studying creative subjects/or if no formal studies, evidence of work/creative activity. - this can be a record of study or your CV, one page max.

Progression: Can be used to supplement existing qualifications to meet entry requirements onto our BA (Hons) Fine Art

Print Based Workshop

This 12-week module will help you to develop your skills base in order to underpin your emerging practice. The structured class environment offers you a valuable transition into self-directed practice learning printmaking techniques (primarily etching and silkscreen) and using these to develop ideas and a visual language within your art practice.

As part of this course, you will produce:

  • a set of investigative workbooks that evidence the development of your own practice
  • a portfolio of drawings and studies relevant to your practice
  • a resolved piece of work using the taught printmaking processes technical notes on the processes covered
  • a digital submission representing practical and written work made for the module.

As part of this course, you are expected to work on your practice and submission outside of class time.

Tuesdays 9.30am - 12.30pm

Additional costs: You will be required to purchase material as part of this course – approximately £20.

Theory and Practice

This 12-week module enables you to reflect on your practice, explore strategies to link theory and practice in a generative way and facilitate an experimental approach to exploring the linkages between theory and practice. As part of this module, you will be required to conduct your own study out side of class hours.

Level: SCQF Level 9
Start date: Friday 5th September
Duration: 12 weeks
Day & time: Friday afternoons

Study mode: You will access all learning via your computer or device. Lectures and other sessions are timetabled, and you will attend these remotely via video conferencing and our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), with support from your lecturers.

Hand Reflexology

This 11-week module will enhance the knowledge and understanding of qualified therapists in the area of hand reflexology. You will cover the structure of the hands, the related reflex areas and how this can be incorporated into your existing treatments. As part of this module you will be guided through a complete hand reflexology routine and shown practical ways to integrate this technique into client sessions.

Level: SCQF Level 8
Start date: Thursday 11th September
Duration: 11 weeks
Day & time: Thursdays, 11am - 4pm

Cost: £152.50

Study mode: You will study through a combination of face-to-face practical classes on campus and remote learning, where some lectures and sessions are timetabled remotely via video conferencing and our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), with support from your lecturers.

Entry Requirements:  

  • You must already hold a reflexology qualification
