What is special about this course?
This UAL Awarding Body course, delivered at Moray School of Art, is designed to help you develop the skills and understanding needed to create a strong visual portfolio for further study.
Working with a range of materials and techniques that allow you to discover what inspires you creatively, you will:
- gain experience in life drawing, photography, painting, digital work, sculpture and 2D or 3D design
- learn how to research and reflect on the work of other artists, supported by talks from visiting artists and gallery visits
- choose your own project themes and build a portfolio that reflects your personal interests
- develop the knowledge and creative confidence needed to progress within art and design
- grow your self-belief as you explore a range of creative approaches
Providing the perfect opportunity for school leavers or mature learners, this course offers an engaging programme of external speakers, industry relevant projects and, when possible, sector specific field trips.

Entry requirements
- Four National 5s at BBDD or above (must include Art and English) OR
- Merit or above at UAL Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design (SCQF Level 5)
- You will also be required to attend an interview and submit a portfolio of work.

Course Content includes:
The Creative Process
You will explore and interrogate the creative process fully through its various stages. You will explore, apply and assess the different stages of the creative process in order to develop an understanding of the separate activities within each stage, and how these activities inform one another holistically. You will investigate and develop these skills through introductory projects and workshops that require them to engage with and show an increasing ability to identify and apply creative process skills.
Developing Creative Practice
This unit requires you to learn about what a creative practice is along with gathering knowledge of various materials, techniques and processes used across 2‑dimensional, 3‑dimensional and 4‑dimensional creative practices.
Responding to a set brief
In this unit, you will be synoptically assessed on the all the learning they have developed throughout the qualification, by responding to a set vocational brief. They will demonstrate their ability to develop a project proposal, generate ideas and produce and present outcomes that respond to a set brief.

What can I do on completion of my course?
On successful completion of this course, you may have the option of applying to progress on to BA (Hons) Fine Art at UHI.
