What is special about this course?

Designed to provide you with a firm foundation for building the skills and knowledge required to pursue a career in hairdressing, this course provides foundation training including basic cutting and colouring which are the key units required within the hairdressing industry. 

This is a practical hands-on course where a willingness communicate with people is encouraged as you gain the basic practical skills to enter the industry at Junior Stylist level or progress to further study.

You will be given the opportunity to take part in work placements.

Entry requirements

  • Three National 4s (including English) OR
  • Completion of Introduction to Foundation Hairdressing (SCQF Level 4) or Access to Hairdressing and Beauty Therapies (SCQF Level 4).
  • You must attend a Course Information Event held prior to the course commencing.

Course content includes:

  • Consultation in Hairdressing
  • Shampoo & Conditioning Treatments
  • Basic Colouring Techniques
  • Basic Styling Techniques
  • Wellbeing & Mindfulness
  • Core Skills: Numeracy, Communication, and Information and Communication Technology

How will I study my course?

  • Full Time

This is a practical based course with face-to-face practical classes on campus supplemented with our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

While we operate a commercial salon, you are encouraged to find your own clients where possible to meet the specific requirements of the portfolio.

Fees

Normally, if you are studying full time for the first time and are Ordinarily Resident in Scotland your course fees will be covered through the information you provide on your course application.

If you are studying part time and are on low income or in receipt of certain benefits your course fees may be covered by a fee waiver.

If you are not Ordinarily Resident in Scotland, you may need to pay course fees.

What can I do on completion of my course?

Upon completion of this course, you may: 

  • Progress onto Hairdressing - Current Techniques: College Certificate (SCQF Level 6) 
  • Enter employment within the hairdressing industry as a Junior Stylist.
