What is special about this course?

Designed to appeal to both hearing and deaf learners, this British Sign Language (BSL) course will help you to: 

  • Develop your language skills Communicate with BSL users in various contexts
  • Develop your understanding of how sign languages work, and how they differ from spoken and written languages
  • Enhance your understanding of Scotland's Deaf Community, people and culture

This programme delivers the requirement of the British Sign Language (Scotland) Act 2015 and the development of the British Sign Language National Plan 2017–2023.

No formal academic entry requirements.

Course content includes:

  • British Sign Language: Understanding Language and Linguistics
  • British Sign Language: Using Language in Context

How will I study my course?

  • Part Time
  • Evening

You will study through a combination of face-to-face practical classes on campus and remote learning, where some lectures and sessions are timetabled remotely via video conferencing and our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), with support from your lecturers.

How long will my course last?

14 Weeks

Face to face: Tuesdays 6pm - 9pm 

Online: Wednesdays 6.30pm - 8.30pm
