English For Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
What is special about this course?
ESOL classes help non-native speakers to improve their English language skills at different levels through the study of reading, writing listening and speaking skills.
Improving your language skills can be beneficial for everyday life, work and study in the UK. ESOL qualifications provide you with opportunities to gain better employment prospects and to progress onto courses of study in Further and Higher Education.
If you are studying an advanced course, you will also have the opportunity to gain a SCQF Level 5 (upper-intermediate) or SCQF Level 6 (Advanced) exam qualification.
Higher ESOL is accepted as an entry requirement by universities across Scotland and is accepted in place of Higher English for entry to many courses, including PGDE Primary / Secondary Education.
- SCQF Levels 2-3 students will focus on language for everyday life.
- SCQF Levels 4-6 students will work on developing enhanced language skills.
Special features:
- You can study our ESOL courses part time in the daytime or evening
- You can study and gain a certificate from SCQF Level 2 up to SCQF Level 6 (Advanced)
- You will be assessed to confirm what ESOL level you will study

Siobhan Mackie, ESOL Lecturer
"We have made huge progress in our English since starting. And we definitely notice this at our place of work – when we first arrived, we found it difficult to understand our colleagues, but now we can have conversations with Scottish people and understand so much more."
