Nazlie Van Steraaten, Keith Grammar (S5)
I love this course as it allows me to be creative and do something that I really enjoy doing. We are half in College and half theory online, the lecturer is very supportive and checks up on you. I plan on doing the Beauty Therapy course next year to get more experience in this area. Anyone thinking about coming to College – you don’t know if you are going to like it unless you try it. It’s a good experience.
Marcus Munro, Speyside High (S4)
It is a practical course and I like to be hands on. I now know how to weld a joint and fix cables. I had a rough idea that I wanted to be an electrician and will look for apprenticeship. My advice for anyone considering studying at Moray College to give it a go you meet new people and it’s fun and different to school.
Cadie Willets-Forsyth, Speyside High (S6)
By taking this course I feel it has helped greatly by building up my confidence that I lacked before. I found the support was great- online and in college. Stephen was always there if I ever needed help and support with something. Stephen makes the course a fun and enjoyable course. From taking part in my placement I have learned how to be involved by taking part and being a leader to younger children. Without this course I wouldn’t have gotten that experience of leading younger children.
In the college course I have been able to build up on my leadership skills and approaches and develop them into my own sessions. Before starting this course I had a rough idea in mind, with joining the police. Once I finish this course I will explore my options of further courses that might benefit me for my future. The advice I would give to those considering studying at UHI would be go for it, this is my second course I’ve done at the college and both courses were great experiences and I’m glad I done them. I got to develop new skills and meet new people through my course which I wouldn’t have been able to do without taking the courses. My course has been enjoyable, interesting and helpful!
Dylan Lawerence, Forres Academy (S6)
This course has provided me with information on how to coach and taught me skills that have brought me out my comfort zone. The class was split between virtual home learning and practical sessions at the College. I found this separate way of learning beneficial and found the Tutor, Stephen helpful, easy to understand and supportive. I have learned different types of coaching styles and different styles of communication to apply in varied situations. I am learning how to plan and deliver my own coaching sessions depending on the different types of client groups to meet their needs using verbal, visual and nonverbal communication styles whilst being aware of any risk factors that need to be considered. I have just started my placement with active schools teaching p3-4 Football. This is a challenge that is giving me the opportunity to put my knowledge into practice. I am currently looking at the level 6 Sport and Fitness course as the next step in my progression. I would recommend this course as it has great facilities and learning through the courses can give you great opportunities. The highlight of College has been meeting other students with the same interests. My course has been fun, helpful and challenging.
Rachael Kelman, Speyside High (S6)
Foundation Apprenticeship in Business Skills
This is the right course for me as I wanted to gain a further qualification in business but also get the experience of a business environment for any future job. The mode of teaching was good and I have a great relationship with all my leacturers which made it easy to speak to them if I have any problems, they have made the course fun which has helped in getting the best out of me. This course has developed my understanding of business and helped me gain confidence in myself ad has allowed me to develop as a person. My plans are to go back to college and do professional cookery and become a chef and hopefully open my own café one day. Highlight of College has been making amazing friends and getting a qualification at the same time. Also putting myself out of my comfort zone. Three words to describe my experience is supportive, friendly and interesting.
Christine Dolor, Speyside High (S6)
I find that Moray UHI was the perfect place for me to study Psychology, allowing me to do a course that isn’t available at high school. I previously did Higher ESOL so familiar with College, however this year it is different as all teaching is online due to COVID. This can be difficult at times but the lecturers are very helpful and approachable. I have already planned my career path to do Nursing at University and this course will help me achieve this. I would recommend College to other school pupils, it’s a great environment to learn in, you meet new people and work with great lecturers every week. It’s a fun and engaging experience.
Harris Polak, Speyside High (S5)
Foundation Apprenticeship in Creative & Digital Media
Due to COVID-19 my course has been fully online but I have found It very effective and the best form of online learning yet. I have learned more about the creative sectors, improved my presentation skills, ability to write creative brief and how to present myself in front of a business official. I chose this course as I know I wanted to become an actor. My plans are to go to University either Glasgow or Edinburgh and hopefully act in TV shows or movies. My advice for anyone thinking about doing a course at College to take the opportunity as it is a very positive environment that will help you with many skills. I feel like I am always treated like an equal which improves my learning.
Hannah Sciascia-Thomson, Elgin Academy (S5)
NPA Cyber Security
This course has taught me new skills and knowledge to do with online safety, digital forensics, data acquisition and analysing digital evidence. My plan is to hopefully do the next level of this course or go into a full-time computing course. My advice to anyone that takes on this course is to not give up and try your best. The highlight of studying at Moray College is the support you get from the lecturer and everyone is calmer. I would describe my experience as fun, interesting and exciting.
Penny Laing, Speyside High (S6)
I chose this course as I’m interested in what makes people act the way they do. The lecturers are really supportive and understanding and explain things clearly. The challenge has been online learning, can difficult to stay focused and you cannot be with your classmates. The course has given me knowledge about the brain and why we dream. I learned about prejudices and how easily it can become discrimination. My plan is to go to University to study Politics and Middle Eastern studies or work for a charity. My advice would be make sure you are interested in the course, not just want a day of school as it is a lot of work. The highlight has been meeting new people from other schools, overall it has been challenging, fun and interesting.
Kari Runcie, Keith Grammar (S4)
I chose this course as beauty is something I want to pursue as a career. I found my lecturer extremely helpful and supportive. She is always wiling to help and answer any questions. Doing this course has confirmed that I want to do this as a career and hopefully start my own business. I have also gained more confidence by meeting new people and being in a different environment to school.
Liam Thompson, Speyside High (S5)
National 5 Sociology
I chose this course as it would be helpful for being in the Police. The teacher is helpful and answers questions fully. I have gained knowledge about how people may act in society and certain views people have and how they differ from my own. After school I want to continue with my education and pursue a career in the Police.
Jamie Rankin, Elgin Academy (S6)
PDA Business and Finance
This course enabled me to keep studying business before university as AH Business wasn’t available at school. The lecturers are very supportive with the current online learning. I’ve improved my knowledge of marketing, accountancy, development communication and presentation skills. After completing school and college this year I plan to go to university to study Business and Economics. Studying at college is definitely worth considering as it provides courses that aren’t available at school. I’ve met new people and been great way to learn new skills and expand my knowledge in Business.

Jack Chalmers, Buckie High School
NPA Cyber Security now Digital Media SCQF Level 6
Studying the NPA Cyber Security course in my Senior Phase taught me how to conduct digital forensic investigations and the laws involving digital crimes. I have developed the skills to use FTK Imager & Autopsy Software to carry out the digital forensic practical work. I had no idea what I wanted to do before I joined this course but now I am studying Digital Media (SCQF Level 6) at Moray College UHI as I want to pursue a career in Digital Media and would like to make a company in Business Testing. Highlights of College was meeting new friends, for me it was better and more interesting than school.
Emma Philip, Forres Academy
This is a great course if you want to join the uniformed services as you get the opportunity to meet people from Army and RAF who give you an insight into their careers. I would recommend this course if you are looking to go into the services, enjoy sports or want to build on your confidence.
Connor Muir, Elgin Academy
I studied Higher Sociology at the college alongside my Highers at school. I really enjoyed the adult learning environment as I had more freedom and also the responsibility to motivate myself which has given me a taster of uni life.
Christine Dolor, Speyside High
My Guidance and English teacher recommended that I apply to do the ESOL Higher. The teaching is good and I can get support when I need it. The college is a new experience and different from high school but I’ve enjoyed meeting new people whilst studying. This course will help me with my university application to study nursing.
Marc Watt, Milnes High
I chose this course as I like to make people feel better as it makes me feel good. The teaching is amazing, I’ve done so much in a small amount of time. I’ve learnt lots of skills - how to perfect a plait, straightening hair and wash and blow drying. I’m proud of what I have accomplished and my confidence has grown. I enjoyed working with the group in my class, we were from different schools in the area but all got along. The highlight of the course was preparing for a festive competition where we could show off our hard work.
Erica Ferguson, Buckie High
I chose to do this course as I knew I wanted to get into this industry and it was an opportunity to gain experience. I would recommend doing this course only if you are interested in automotive and cars. When I leave school, I plan to come to college full time to do the motor vehicle course to become a mechanic.
Megan Finn, Milnes High
NPA Web Design now Digital Media SCQF Level 6
I originally started doing the school programme in Web Design SCQF Level 5. I found that I really enjoyed the environment and made many new friends and learnt new things. The tutors were really friendly and supportive. If you ever had any issues all you had to do was ask for help and they will try everything to help you and break it down for you to understand.
After passing the school programme and leaving school I applied to do NC Computing with Digital Media SCQF Level 6. The jump wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be, since I already had been to college it was easy to settle in. If anyone is thinking of considering the Senior Phase Programme I would say go for it! Even if you’re nervous and shy to try new things. It will be the best experience!
Kyle Smith, Buckie High
I have learnt a lot on this course for example how to code a basic website, photoshop and lots more. There isn’t anything like this course available at my school and it is the best around.
Katie Craig, Lossiemouth High
By studying engineering at college while still at school it made me 100% sure that I really want to do engineering in the military as a career. I would advise anyone interested in engineering to do the course and enjoy it, initially I stressed over the thought of going to college but once I started everything was fine and you get to mix with students from different schools and the staff are very helpful.
Chloe Allan, Forres Academy
I chose this course as I would like to work in a nursery after going on to complete an HNC in childcare at Moray College UHI. This course has taught so much including how a child develops, how they learn to grow and you also get the opportunity to do work experience in a nursery.
