What is special about this course?

The Access to Hairdressing and Beauty Therapies course will allow you to develop understanding and skills in hairdressing and beauty therapies through a set of basic foundation practical skills including:

  • Shampoo and Condition Hair 
  • Styling And Finishing The Hair 
  • Current Make Up Skills 
  • Lower Leg Waxing

This course will provide an opportunity to combine hairdressing and beauty therapy technical skills and develop good working practice across both areas. The inclusion of Personal Development: Practical Abilities and Improving Wellbeing units will help you build confidence and resilience with Core Skills being embedded and enhanced throughout the programme.

Entry requirements

Working towards 2 National 4s including English or equivalent, e.g., may include relevant attainment at National 3.

  • Introduction to Styling and Finish the Hair
  • Introduction to Shampoo & Condition

  • Stress Relief Techniques
  • Personal Development: Practical Abilities
  • Develop Working Relationships and Personal Growth
  • Core Skills – Numeracy, ICT, Communication

Equipment

A uniform, shoes and kit will require to be purchased via the Bursary allowance. Forms available to purchase the following -
Equipment: Hair kit (brushes, combs, clips) / Make Up brush & tool kit (£47.79)
Uniform – Tunic and trousers £64.75 plus, shoes £36.

How will I study my course?

  • Full Time

Blended learning.
Practical face to face, hands on sessions in a realistic working environment.
Online VLE sessions to cover theory.

What can I do on completion of my course?

Successful completion of this course provides an exit pathway to employment as a salon assistant and early stages of training for the industry profession of both subjects.

Alternatively, you can progress onto the following SCQF Level 5 programmes:

  • Hairdressing  
  • Barbering
  • Beauty & Aesthetic Therapies 
  • Microblading Artistry

To progress to a relevant L5 programme in hairdressing or beauty therapy, continuing students must successfully complete all 10.5 assessed credits.
