Sports Coaching Skills SCQF Level 6
What is special about this course?
This online programme is aimed at individuals who are currently working in coaching or who aspire to be a sports coach.
Over 5 weeks you will take part in 2 hour sessions which will include online lectures with an additional 10 hours of interactive reflective practise.
This will involve using discussion boards for reflective practice and the development of a support network of peers.
This course is intended to work closely with industry employers, both locally and regionally, to provide ongoing support to existing coaches and aspiring coaches.
This course provides an opportunity to bring coaches and aspiring coaches together, from a range of different sports and backgrounds, to provide a network of support to develop and enhance knowledge and delivery within their specific fields.

Entry requirements
No formal entry requirements.
Course content includes:
Developing your coaching approach- Coaching philosophy- values and beliefs, holistic coaching
Delivering engaging sessions- Making sessions interactive, fun, progressive, challenging
Annual and session planning- designing sessions- aims and objectives, goal setting- process- performance- outcome goals. Periodisation.
Analysing and correcting technique- strategies to breakdown and communicate coaching points through feedback/questioning interventions.
What makes a good session- Bring it all together, considering the Technical, Tactical, Physiological and Psychological pillars of performance.
Equipment
You will require access to a tablet, laptop, or desktop with a webcam.
How will I study my course?
- Online
You will access all learning via your computer or device. Lectures and other sessions are timetabled and you will attend these remotely via video conferencing and our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), with support from your lecturers.
How long will my course last?
5 Weeks5 x 2 hour sessions plus 10 hours of interactive reflective practice.
Tuesdays, 6.30 – 8.30pm.

Normally, if you are studying full time for the first time and are Ordinarily Resident in Scotland your course fees will be covered through the information you provide on your course application.
If you are studying part time and are on low income or in receipt of certain benefits your course fees may be covered by a fee waiver.
If you are not Ordinarily Resident in Scotland, you may need to pay course fees.

What can I do on completion of my course?
If you are already working in industry or want to progress into a career as a sports coach then this course can be linked to sport governing bodies as part of CPD for coach licenses, which many organisations require to keep the coaches in the community upskilled and progressive.
