Sport Coaching and Performance Pathway (Football, Fitness or Multi-Sports) SCQF Level 5
What is special about this course?
The world of sport and fitness offers a wide range of exciting and satisfying careers across coaching, fitness, outdoor adventure tourism and health promotion.
This course will provide you with a background knowledge of duties in the sport and fitness industry. As well as gaining educational skills, you will participate in a work placement over the year to enhance your employability skills in one of the three areas:
- football
- fitness
- multi-sport
You will also have opportunity to explore several aspects of sport and fitness studies in a theoretical and practical way and visit local and regional leisure facilities. It will also give you the opportunity to participate in a residential trip at the end of the academic year.

This course is designed with industry experience at the forefront. As part of your course, you will choose a pathway in either:
- football
- fitness
- multi-sport
and will spend a few hours each week working within your chosen industry.
Entry requirements
- Three National 4s (including PE) OR
- a SCQF Level 4 course.
- Applications are encouraged from prospective students without the standard entry requirements as listed above
If you do not have an appropriate PE qualification, you will be invited to attend a practical assessment.
Category 1 PVG course: PVG Scheme membership is required to successfully achieve target qualification, where there is guaranteed contact with vulnerable groups in key elements of the course. You will be required to purchase a kit for this course:
- PE kit (Approx. £80)
- Outdoor kit (Approx. £30)
- Stopwatch (Approx. £10)
- Whistle (Approx. £5)
If you are eligible for a bursary these costs will be covered.
How will I study my course?
- Full Time
This is a practical based course delivered within our sport and fitness facilities.
Opportunities for work experience in the community helping to deliver sport and fitness sessions will be provided throughout the year.

Normally, if you are studying full time for the first time and are Ordinarily Resident in Scotland your course fees will be covered through the information you provide on your course application.
If you are studying part time and are on low income or in receipt of certain benefits your course fees may be covered by a fee waiver.
If you are not Ordinarily Resident in Scotland, you may need to pay course fees.

What can I do on completion of my course?
On completion of this course, you may be able progress onto our Sport and Fitness: College Certificate course (successful completion of 10 credits is required).
Alternatively, you can enter employment as a Leisure Attendant or Assistant Coach in sports halls, leisure centres or leisure clubs in hotels.
