Hospitality is the 3rd largest private sector employer in the UK and businesses which make up the sector include: hotels, restaurants, coffee shops, pubs and bars, leisure parks, stadia, nightclubs, contract caterers, food service operators, entertainment and visitor attractions.

This course is designed to provide relevant and flexible skills training for those at the start of their journey in Hospitality. Employment opportunities on successful completion of this course are likely to be in roles such as Kitchen Assistant or Trainee Waiter/Chef.

You will gain skills in areas such as Commis Chef and Basic Food & Drink Service, but also you will focus on employability, Elementary Food Hygiene, Cookery Methods and how to best present yourself.

This course is delivered within the Hospitality & Tourism Academy (HATA) at Moray College UHI and features learning and teaching within training kitchens, classrooms and the college training restaurant, The Beechtree.

This is a fantastic introduction regardless of where you see yourself ending up.

Entry requirements

Three National 4s, one of which must be English
or
satisfactory attainment of a SCQF Level 4 course

Applications are encouraged from mature students who do not possess formal qualifications but have skills to meet the academic demand of the course.

Equipment

Kit required includes knives, textbook, equipment and uniforms. College Bursary (if successfully applied for) will pay for all kit required.

How will I study my course?

Coronavirus (COVID-19) update

Our priority is to provide a safe learning environment for all students and staff. We will continue to review government guidance as lockdown measures shift over the next few months and will inform you of any further changes to the information provided below about your course. You will study the course through our blended learning approach. In semester one, September 2020, the theory elements will be delivered mainly online through a combination of video conference seminars, tutor-supported study and self-directed study using the university's virtual learning environment. You will also have the opportunity to do an online induction at the start of the course. On-campus activities, practical sessions and placements will be introduced in line with the developing Scottish Government public health measures and guidance, including social distancing.

Face-to-face teaching based in the Hospitality & Tourism Academy at Moray College UHI. There will also be elements of online delivery taking place where necessary.

Industry visits will form part of the delivery and there will be external engagement through our Hospitality Association Moray (HAM) partnership and external associations.
