This unique course will be delivered by a blended learning approach and can be studied full time or part time.

The course content has been developed to allow you time to learn and progress your skills within a realistic learning environment at the college salon and working with real clients.

Successful completion of this course will enable you to be fully qualified in Barbering and work in an employed or self-employed basis.

Entry requirements

  • Three National 4s (including English) OR
  • Completion of Introduction to Foundation Hairdressing (SCQF Level 4) or Access to Hairdressing and Beauty Therapies (SCQF Level 4).
  • You must attend a Course Information Event held prior to the course commencing

  • Men's Haircutting including Detailing and Facial Hair
  • Develop and Enhance Practical Skills
  • Coping Strategies and Building Resilience
  • Wellbeing and Mindfulness
  • Role of a Salon Manager
  • Information and Communication Technology
  • Numeracy
  • Communication

Equipment

You will be required to purchase a kit and uniform for this course (Kit Approx. £462.26, uniform approx. £117.18 for tunics, trousers, and shoes). If you are eligible for a bursary these costs will be covered.

Normally, if you are studying full time for the first time and are Ordinarily Resident in Scotland your course fees will be covered through the information you provide on your course application. If you are studying part time and are on low income or in receipt of certain benefits your course fees may be covered by a fee waiver. If you are not Ordinarily Resident in Scotland, you may need to pay course fees. Please refer to our Fees and Funding section for more information.

What can I do on completion of my course?

Upon completion of this course, you may progress onto Foundation Hairdressing SCQF Level 5. Alternatively, you will be fully qualified in Barbering to work on an employed or self-employed basis.
