Hospitality: Ready, Steady, Bake SCQF Level 4
What is special about this course?
This short, full-time Bakery course is an ideal starting point for anyone with an interest in baking or working in a kitchen.
The course will focus on practical skills, at an introductory level and will feature hands-on, fun and varied activities with expert instruction from highly experienced Hospitality and Tourism Academy (HATA) Lecturers.
The core units cover baking, bread-making, cake decorating and pastry. Time will be spent on understanding preparation, cookery processes and food hygiene and you will get the chance to work on developing a product of your own.
The Hospitality industry itself offers huge opportunity for employment and there is a real trend for baking thanks to shows like the Great British Bake-Off. Cafés and coffee shops are abundant in the local area and anyone with some good, basic baking skills will be able to find employment in a huge number of establishments of this type. There is also a sharp rise in the number of new, small baking businesses, where individuals are choosing to put their skills to good use and creating homemade products for sale.

Entry requirements
- Evidence that you can work at National 3/4 level in English or equivalent.
- You will also be invited to an interview.
- Applications are encouraged from prospective students without the standard entry requirements as listed above.

The course may feature local visits, guest lectures, local case studies and involvement and incentives from local businesses.
Equipment
Students will be provided with all necessary uniform (PPE) and with all necessary equipment.

What can I do on completion of my course?
On successful completion of this course you may:
- Progress onto our full-time courses within the Hospitality and Tourism Academy.
- Enter employment as a trainee Baker, trainee Chef, Kitchen Assistant or Commis Chef.
