What is special about this course?
This course enables you to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required to gain employment in childcare at support level. The course also prepares you for entry to the HNC Early Education and Childcare course. The course covers the years from birth to 12.
Please note that students on this course are required to have a satisfactory (PVG) Protecting Vulnerable Adults check to enable participation in practice placement. satisfactory attainment of a prerequisite SCQF Level 5 or equivalent.
Applications are encouraged from mature students who do not possess formal qualifications but have the skills to meet the academic demands of the course.
A satisfactory Protecting Vulnerable Adults (PVG) check is also required.

How will I study my course?
- Full Time
Face to face teaching, supported with Virtual Learning Environment engagement. Two work placements of six weeks duration help students build links between theory and practice.
Portfolios, Reflective Accounts of Practice and Closed Book Assessments.
How long will my course last?
Full time - 1 year (includes a minimum of 60 days on placement).

The good news is that depending on your personal circumstances there are a wide range of bursaries, grants and allowances available to fund your college studies.
What can I do on completion of my course?
Further study may include HNC Childhood Practice/Continuing Professional Development (CPD), or employment in the childcare area in a support role e.g. Playgroup Assistant.
Those wishing to progress to the HNC need to pass the external Higher project
additional to the NC course. Students can also use the award for registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a Support Worker.
