What is special about this course?
This Learning Step is ideal as a gentle introduction to Microsoft Excel.
Beginning with the basics you are gently introduced to Spreadsheets with simple exercises to increase your confidence with the software.
More and more jobs now require IT Skills in a wide range of areas. Having the Learning Steps qualification shows employers that you are willing to improve your IT skills.
This course can either be studied from home or in college at your own pace, either through the day or at an evening session. Our IT Trainers are here to provide support for you when required.
No formal entry qualifications or previous experience with computers required.
Course content includes:
- How to open and close documents
- Find your way around a worksheet and workbook
- Use simple formulae to do your calculations
- Add rows and columns and format the numbers
- Add text used in your worksheets
Office 365 software is required for study which is available as a free download for students.

The course is self-taught with the support of an IT trainer.

Short course: Flexible over 10 weeks.

Flexible start dates. You can study for up to 20 hours from enrolment and can be started at any time in the year.
The good news is that depending on your personal circumstances there are a wide range of bursaries, grants and allowances available to fund your college studies.
What can I do on completion of my course?
After completing Learning Step 1 you can progress on to Learning Step 2 or a Learning Step in a different programme. Your IT Trainer can help you decide.
You also have the option to progress to the European Computer Driving Licence or the Computing with Digital Media SCQF Level 5 course.
Completion of this course also demonstrates to employers a commitment to learn new skills.
