Horticulture - Practical: Steps to Work (SCQF Level 4) College Certificate

What is special about this course?

This Practical Horticulture award is designed to support flexible and individualised learning and to recognise wider achievement through choice and opportunity. This is a hands-on introductory course, designed for people starting out in horticulture, that introduces subjects such as plant establishment, garden maintenance and plant propagation.

The course incorporates a SVQ in Horticulture SCQF Level 4, formerly SVQ Level 1.

 

Entry requirements

Working towards 2 National 4s including English

or

equivalent e.g. may include relevant attainment at National 3.

How will I study my course?

  • Full Time

The course contains a large amount of practical work that students are expected to gain competency in.

There is also an element of theoretical study that underpins the work we do.

We use a variety of methods to assess your progress and learning.  These range from short answer & multi choice questions, quizzes, observations and items of extended writing and research.

The good news is that depending on your personal circumstances there are a wide range of bursaries, grants and allowances available to fund your college studies.

What can I do on completion of my course?

Further study may include the Horticulture (Practical): College Certificate or similar course.

With the bulk of the course consisting of hands-on practical horticulture, it leads naturally to a career working in the horticulture industry, e.g. Garden Centres, Parks, Local Authority employment etc.
