Hospitality - Introduction City & Guilds Certificate (Level 4)

What is special about this course?

This is an entry level course focusing on the basic skills required in the kitchen and restaurant.

Students will study at the Hospitality and Tourism Academy training kitchens as well as working alongside other full time students in the Beechtree Restaurant based at our campus.

Students will benefit from the Academy’s award-winning connections with employers and may have the chance to attend local field-trips.

This course is ideal to gain practical experience in the Hospitality Industry which has a variety of career options and employs 10% of the UK population.

1. Students can gain the qualification in one semester

2. Students will spend time in a realistic working environment

3. Students can progress to SCQF Level 5 course

4. Students will learn basic kitchen and restaurant skills

5. Students will get a taster of studying at the Hospitality and Tourism Academy

Entry requirements

Working towards 2 National 4s including English or equivalent e.g. may include relevant attainment at National 3

Units include:

  • Introduction to the Hospitality Industry

  • Customer Service in the Hospitality Industry

  • Basic Food preparation and Cooking

  • Introduction to Kitchen Equipment

  • Assisting at a Hospitality Event

  • Food & Beverage Service Skills

  • Food Safety in Catering

  • Essential Knife Skills for the Catering Industry

How will I study my course?

  • Full Time

Face-to-face in classroom, kitchen or restaurant.

How long will my course last?

January start - 5 months (for January start choose "I want to start in 2019/20" when completing online application).

August start - 1 academic year (for August start choose "I want to start in 2020/21" when completing online application).

What can I do on completion of my course?

On completion of this course you could gain employment in the Hospitality Industry at an entry level position such as Kitchen Porter or Trainee Chef/Waiter.

Or you could progress into City & Guilds Culinary Skills (SCQF Level 5).
